New Talent Is Amazing
American Midwest Ballet-Believe show is not the same as American Midwest Ballet performances from the past, so if you expect that, you may be disappointed. However, American Midwest Ballet has always experienced changes over the years in performers and performances. The American Midwest Ballet of today is not the same as the American Midwest Ballet of 2005. Is this a bad thing? Well, yes and no. The new talent maintains the same high standards as before, and the show now includes some male step dancing, more bagpipe playing, and even a song where two of the singers interact with the audience by coming down the aisles. The background set is much more ornate and colorful, with neon sets and a mild display of laser lights. The newcomers have strong voices, but they lack the strong Irish accents of their predecessors, which is noticeable in the new renditions of "Danny Boy" and "Amazing Graze." These songs are now performed in combination with all three singers at the same time and with solo segments. If you have seen and heard previous American Midwest Ballet versions of these songs, you might agree that each song is more powerful when performed solo or, as in the case of "Danny Boy," acapella. The show, overall, was really different from what I had envisioned but still outstanding and enjoyable. All three singers, especially Chloe, were interactive with the audience, adding fun and spontaneity that were missing when American Midwest Ballet was more focused on four equally talented Irish singers and a brilliantly gifted violinist.
